March 12, 1960 [87] "The Case
of the Singing Skirt"
Director Arthur Marks
Teleplay Jackson Gillis
Story Erle Stanley Gardner's 1959
novel
A great episode with good shots of the
street hustle and bustle of the fifties, when men were
men and decent women kept quiet.
The Big Barn is a legal gambling casino
where "everybody is happy" under the orders of
the big boss and laughing boy George Anclitis. That is,
until second banana Slim Marcus botches a crooked card
game and is exposed for cheating.
When Slim's girlfriend is killed,
Anclitis plants a gun and marijuana on Betty Roberts, one
of the "skirts" that works for him. Betty knows
too much and Anclitis wants to use her to take the heat
off his club and his "boys." Perry takes Betty
under his wing and goes to great lengths to put the real
criminal where he belongs.
Betty Roberts Joan O'Brien (defendant)
Joseph "Slim" Marcus H. M. Wynant
Vivian Ennis Jeanne Moody (victim)
Judge Richard Gaines
